SUSPICIOUS WHITE POWDER LETTER RECEIVED AT GOVERNOR’S OFFICE
IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA
David A. Thomas, Special Agent in Charge, Columbia FBI, announces that a suspicious white powder letter was received at the governor’s office today. Within the last week, seven more letters containing a suspicious white powder have been received by the offices of governors around the country.
The white powder substance has been field screened and the tests have met with negative results. The white powder substance has been forwarded to DHEC laboratories, and results are pending.
To date, all letters have been postmarked from Texas and were received by governors’ offices in Alabama, Alaska, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, and South Carolina.
The FBI, the Postal Service, SLED, and DHEC are investigating this case jointly. David A. Thomas, Special Agent in Charge of the Columbia office of the FBI, requests anyone with information concerning these letters should contact the local FBI office at 803.551.4200.
