FBI TO MARK 100TH ANNIVERSARYOn July 26th of this year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) began the journey towards its 100th year of service to the country. This milestone anniversary will culminate on July 27, 2008, when the 100th anniversary of the FBI will be officially recognized, both locally here in Columbia and nationwide. As part of this celebration, the South Carolina FBI office, headquartered in Columbia will begin issuing monthly releases to commemorate significant dates and events in the history of the FBI, with emphasis on the South Carolina area. Throughout the upcoming months, events and ceremonies will be held to celebrate this event, many of which will be open to both the public and the media. Advisories will be issued to the media as dates and locations for these events are finalized. Formed in 1908 as the Bureau of Investigation, the FBI has evolved into one of the premier law enforcement agencies in the world, with over 30,000 employees including 12,000 Special Agents. The FBI's jurisdiction has also expanded to include over 200 violations of federal criminal law with offices in over 400 cities nationwide and in 60 foreign countries.
