NC MAN SENTENCED FOR SC ROBBERIES

          

COLUMBIA, SC—United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins stated today that Jimmy Keith Russell, age 41, of Bladenboro, North Carolina, was sentenced this week in federal court in Florence, South Carolina, for the unarmed bank robberies of three banks and two stores in August 2007. United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten sentenced Russell to 42 months imprisonment and ordered to pay $19,419.18 in restitution.

Russell pled guilty to the robberies, admitting he robbed the Anderson Brothers Bank in Loris on August 9, 2007; the Carolina Bank in North Myrtle Beach on August 15th ; the First Palmetto Savings Bank in North Myrtle Beach on August 17th and 27th; and the Kangaroo Express and Rite Aid Pharmacy, both in North Myrtle Beach, on August 31st.

The case was investigated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the Florence office handled the case.
