MYRTLE BEACH MAN GUILTY ON OBSCENITY CHARGE

Columbia, South Carolina ---- Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald stated that William Harry Meyer, age 57, of Myrtle Beach, pled guilty in federal court to transferring obscene matter to an individual he believed to be a minor. United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten accepted the plea and will impose sentence at a later date.

Evidence presented at the guilty plea hearing established that in 2006, Meyer made contact in an internet chat room with an Indiana detective posing as a 13-year old girl. Meyer continued to make contacts using sexually-suggestive language, escalating with his use of a web-cam to send images of himself masturbating during the internet conversations. Meyer also attempted to have the purported minor engage in similar activities by using a web cam, and requested that she send him a pair of her panties.

The maximum penalty Meyer can receive is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment for 10 years.

The case was investigated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the Florence office handled the case.
