GREENVILLE MAN GUILTY ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

Columbia, South Carolina ---- United States Attorney W. WALTER WILKINS stated today that David Lamont Norman, age 21, of Greenville, pled guilty today in federal court to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 841(a)(1). United States Circuit Judge William B. Traxler, Jr., sitting by designation as a United States District Judge, accepted the plea and will impose sentence at a later date.

Evidence established that on September 16, 2007, Norman was arrested by Greenville County Sheriff's deputies for operating a stolen vehicle. In a search incident to that arrest officers found $1,395 and digital scales used for weighing illegal substances in Norman's pants. In addition to the money and scales, powder and crack cocaine were found hidden in Norman's clothes.

Mr. Wilkins stated that Norman faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, up to a maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment.

The case was investigated by agents of the FBI and Greenville County Sheriff's office. Assistant United States Attorney Jeanne Howard of the Greenville office handled the case.
