W. WALTER WILKINS UNITED STATES ATTORNEY DISTRICT OF SOUTH CAROLINA __________________________________________________________ 1441 Main Street * Suite 500 * Columbia, SC 29201 * (803) 929-3000 * __________________________________________________________ August 7, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT PERSON: KEVIN F. MCDONALD GREENVILLE TEEN SENTENCED FOR ARMED BANK ROBBERY Columbia, South Carolina---- United States Attorney W. Walter Wilkins stated that Antonio Lamar Scott, age 19, of Greenville, was sentenced in federal court in Spartanburg for armed bank robbery and using a gun during a violent felony. United States District Judge Henry F. Floyd sentenced Scott to 117 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. Scott had previously entered a guilty plea, along with co-defendant Troy Adam Davenport, to the February 13, 2007, armed bank robbery of First Savers Bank at 1818 Augusta Street in Greenville. Evidence established that Davenport entered the First Savers Bank, pointed a handgun at a teller, and demanded money. Bank employees watched as Davenport fled the bank and jumped into a car, with Scott sitting in the passenger seat. One bank employee called 911 and followed the pair as they made their getaway. After a brief pursuit by Greenville police officers, Davenport lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. Both Scott and Davenport fled the scene but were quickly apprehended. Found inside the car was the money taken in the robbery and the gun used by Davenport. Employees recalled seeing Scott inside the bank shortly before the robbery, asking for directions to another bank in the area. Davenport is scheduled for sentencing at a later date. The case was investigated by agents of the FBI and Greenville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jeanne Howard of the Greenville office handled the case. #####
