COLUMBIA, South Carolina ----- United States Attorney Reginald I. Lloyd stated today that DANIEL AARON STONE, age 26, of Florence, and DANIEL LEE SUGGS, age 20, of Darlington, were each sentenced yesterday afternoon by United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell to 32 years imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. Stone and Suggs previously pled guilty to two counts of possessing guns in furtherance of crimes of violence. Evidence in the case established that the men, as well as two juveniles, were involved in a crime spree in Florence and Darlington counties between November 11, 2005, and January 2, 2006. The crime spree involved the shooting at a Timmonsville police officer on December 19, 2005; the following armed robberies: the Microtel Inn, 1912 Enterprise Drive, Florence on November 27, 2005; Guesthouse Inn on November 29, 2005; Alco Food Store, 1374-B Highway 38 West, Latta on December 23, 2005; Markette #17, 2401 N. Palmetto Street, Florence, on December 2005; Markette #1, 2004 South 5th Street, Hartsville on December 27, 2005; and the Holiday Inn Express, 150 Dunbarton Drive, Florence on January 2, 2006; and culminated in Suggs getting shot by Florence police officers after an attempted carjacking of a man at the intersection of Hoffmeyer and Evans Streets in Florence on January 2, 2006.

The case was investigated by the Florence Police Department, Darlington Police Department, Lamar Police Department, the Florence County Sheriff's Office, Darlington County Sheriff's Office, Dillon County Sheriff's Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rose Mary Parham of the Florence Office prosecuted the case as a part of Project CeaseFire, an initiative of the United States Attorneys Office that seeks to aggressively prosecute gun-related crimes.
